During work on normal conducting linear colliders the statistical nature ofrf breakdown in the accelerating structures became apparent and the rf breakdown rate turn into a quantitative measure of the linac&amp;#39;s high gradient performance.&lt;br \/&gt;\nWe conjecture that the breakdown rate is linked to the movements ofcrystal defects induced by periodic mechanical stress due to exposure of metal to the rf fields. Therefore, by decreasing crystal mobility and increasing yield strength we will reduce the breakdown rate for the same accelerating gradient.&lt;br \/&gt;\nWe can achieve these properties by cooling a copper accelerating cavity to cryogenic temperatures. As a part of our study of basic physics of the rf breakdown, we tested an 11.4 GHz cryogenic copper accelerating cavity athigh power. We measured low rf breakdown rate for surface electric fieldsnear 500 MV\/m at a flat gradient of 150 ns.&lt;br \/&gt;\nA potential use of this improved high gradient performance are in rf photo injectors, where a very large gradient could help to produce electron  bunches with high brightness and low transverse emittances. The e- beam is generated from a novel low level RF-gun providing 6.5 nC charge at 10 MeV with 0.5 micron geometric emittance by BINP.  The e+ beam is produced by the impact of a 4.46 GeV e- beam onto a hybrid target, accelerated in the linac up to 1.54 GeV, and injected to the DR for emittance cooling. Simulations on the performance of the DR are presented for reaching the required equilibrium emittances at the required damping time. Valizadeh and O. The designs of several future colliders are based on this scheme. Until recently the beam-beam effects for collisions under a large crossing angle with or without crab waist were mostly studied using weak-strong simulations. We here present a strong-strong simulation result, in which a novel strong coherent head-tail instability is seen, which can limit the performance of proposed future colliders. We explain the underlying instability mechanism starting from the &amp;ldquo;wake force&amp;rdquo; induced by the beam-beam interaction. Using this beam-beam wake, the beam-beam head tail modes are studied by an eigenmode analysis. The instability may affect all collider designs based on the crab waist scheme. In a high current ring, such as SuperKEKB, these effects can negatively affect the machine performance. Consequently, in such rings a concerted effort is generally undertaken to design and build a smooth vacuum chamber, in order to minimize the impedance. The bottom-up approach of obtaining a ring impedance--performing wake calculations beginning with drawings of vacuum chamber objects--was probably first used in the 1980\u2019s in designing the vacuum chamber of the damping rings of the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC). Yet even now, so many years later, the calculation and verification of the impedance in a ring can be challenging and have aspects of an art form. In this talk I will review the calculations and measurements at the SLC. The corrugated pipe as a beam dechirper was developed as a passive and simple solution to this task. In 2015 a flat version of the dechirper--consisting of two corrugated plates--was built and installed in the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at SLAC. During its commissioning it was soon realized that passing the beam close to a single plate induces a fast, longitudinally correlated transverse kick that facilitates? self-seeding,fresh slice, and two color modes of operation of the FEL.
